As a little girl I loved when my mother had guests to tea. She would bring out the gorgeous pink floral china from the glass cabinet, the hand- embroidered tablecloth and our best cutlery. I particularly remember being fascinated by the pretty shape and engravings of the preserve spoon and the intricacy of the butter knife. As an adult my fascination with pretty china and all things related to vintage dining continued, I have been an avid collector of beautiful porcelain for many years. I was thrilled when I discovered that there was a renewed interest in afternoon tea and that people were rediscovering the joy of using fine pretty china, especially at tea time. I have always enjoyed cooking and preparing food and Karen and myself have worked together catering in the past. It seemed natural when I thought of setting up a business that involved food and vintage china I should approach Karen, who, apart from being an excellent all round cook, makes the most amazing celebration cakes and the prettiest cupcakes you can imagine. Thankfully she loved the idea as much as I do, so we joined up and Elizabeth Rose was launched.
In 1992 I trained in sugar craft, patisserie and design at Bracknell College and subsequently ran a celebration cake business. On moving to Farnham in the late 1990’s, I started a new catering business with a couple of friends and for many years have enjoyed providing quality food for private functions and businesses. I have now returned to my cake decorating and have been teaching classes in Berkshire, Hampshire and Surrey. It is such a joy to pass on my passion to willing students and to see the amazing results some have achieved. When Elaine asked me to join her in this new venture I jumped at the chance as we have worked well together in the past. I was eager to enjoy all aspects of baking and catering again as well as being able to give demonstrations in a warm, friendly atmosphere when required.
